Installation Guide:
Prepare for Installation:
- Unwrap your Blackhawk UCA's, ensuring you have a matching left and right pair.
- Securely raise your vehicle on a hoist or jack stands and remove the front wheels.
Dismantling the Old UCA:
- Using a 12mm socket/spanner, detach the ABS lines from the OE UCA mounting points.
- Remove the sway bar link from the spindle.
- Loosen the upper ball joint nut with a 19mm socket and strike the spindle to release the ball joint taper.
- Support the lower arm to prevent over-extension of the driveshaft.
Removing the UCA:
- Use a 19mm spanner to remove the large UCA pivot bolt from the chassis mount as per the vehicle service manual. Adjust AC lines if needed for clearance.
- Note the order of components for re-fitment.
Installing Blackhawk UCA:
- Fit the Blackhawk UCA into the chassis mount, ensuring the ball joint is positioned towards the back of the vehicle.
- Reuse OE pivot bolts and components, lubricating the bolt for smooth fitment.
- Leave bolts loose until the vehicle is lowered, then tighten to factory specifications (115Nm).
Final Steps:
- Use the supplied Shim kit to adjust any gap between the arm and the chassis as required.
- Guide the ball joint taper into the spindle and tighten to factory specifications (110Nm).
- Reattach ABS lines to the tabs welded to the Blackhawk UCA using supplied hardware.
- Reinstall the sway bar link to the spindle.
- Repeat the process for the opposite side.
Completion and Inspection:
- Cycle the suspension to ensure all components clear properly.
- Confirm ABS lines are free from pinching and not over-extended at full droop.
- Grease ball joints thoroughly before driving; apply quality bearing grease and reinstall dust caps.
- Double-check all components are securely fitted and tightened to factory specs.
- If needed, install a new split pin into the upper ball joint and recheck after 1000 kilometers of driving.
Post-Installation:
- Complete the installation with a wheel alignment by a qualified professional to ensure optimal performance.
Note:
- The heavy-duty ball joints installed in Blackhawk UCA's are designed in a robust, hard-to-hard style, necessitating periodic greasing. Please ensure you grease the ball joints during installation and at recommended service intervals to maintain optimal performance.
