A common failure with many dual battery installations is the failure of the fuse/holder. Poor quality fuse holders often fail to make adequate contact with the fuse, this allows dirt and dust to get in-between the contact points and causes excess heat to be generated. This can be enough to lose valuable charge to heat dissipation and may even result in the fuse and holder melting, in turn failing to charge your auxiliary battery.
